In preparation for the Research Assessment Exercise conducted by Hong Kong’s University Grants Committee in 2014, the College of Science and Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong undertook a practice exercise in late 2013. All academics in the College wrote brief overviews of their research achievements, publications and funding. We were given the task of editing the submissions, often transforming bare-bone accounts into persuasive summaries of research accomplishments.
Having already edited the College’s annual report and written material for its brochure, we were familiar with the broad scope of research undertaken in this, the university’s most productive academic unit. A feature of the project was our ability to liaise with five contact people, channel submissions through our Workflow Manager and return each batch of work within four days. Our efforts were highly appreciated.
