AH Editing - Journal Papers

Journal Papers

We work on papers from all fields and the quality of our work has earned us industry-wide respect. As we charge by the hour and quote on each paper, you can be sure that you'll only pay for what we do.

We focus on improving documents in a number of areas:

  • Grammar
  • Punctuation
  • Style
  • Spelling
  • Standardisation of terms
  • Clarity
  • Fluency

When we edit in Word we use the change tracking feature, which allows you to see everything we have done and accept or reject our changes individually, by section or page, or for the whole document.

Standard Editing

Our most popular service, this includes two edits by a first editor, after which the paper goes to a senior editor for a final check before release to the client.

Premium Editing

This service gives an opportunity for more client-editor communication. After Standard Editing, the client has the opportunity to go through the edited paper, attending to any comments that the editor may have inserted and adding their own to ensure their meaning has been clearly understood. Finally, a senior editor works through the document a final time before it is returned to the client. This is offered at a 30% premium to the Standard Editing charge.

Journal Paper Formatting

Inclusive in our Standard (and Premium) Editing charge is standardisation to US or UK English.
Adhering to the two most common style guidelines, the APA Publication Manual and the Chicago Manual of Style attracts approximately a 20% surcharge, whilst following other style guidelines including those of specific journals normally involves a surcharge of around 30%.

Editor Report

Available for a flat fee, for those who would like to improve their writing. This report outlines the key grammatical and stylistic areas of your writing that would benefit from improvement in future.

Editing Certificate

Provided free-of-charge when requested, you will be able to send the Editing Certificate to your target journal as proof that your paper has been edited by a professional English language editing service.

To ensure fairness, we'll provide a quote based on an initial quick, free-of-charge analysis of your document.

Unlike some editing houses, we don't charge an averaged dollar per word figure, because doing so would mean that clients with a higher than average writing standard would subsidise those with a lower standard.

To submit your document for a free fixed quote please email it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or send it through our website form.

If you'd first like to get a rough idea of how much the editing will cost, please enter your document's word count into our Approximate Cost Calculator. There you'll also find more details on discounts and payment methods.

Quality Assurance

We value the trust that our clients place in us and ensure the quality of our editing service in a number of ways.

  • Selective Recruitment

We select only a very small percentage of applicants to work with us, most holding postgraduate qualifications from leading research universities. All applicants must attempt our online assessment, with our Chief Editor, Dr Mike Poole, making the final call on who makes the grade.

  • Ongoing Training and Development

Dr Poole is ultimately responsible for maintaining quality, and conducts feedback sessions with all new editors until he is happy with the level of their editing work. From then on our editors benefit from periodical feedback sessions and from joining team webinars.

  • A Two-Stage Editing Process

All documents are edited at least twice by a first editor. Following that they go on to a senior editor who ensures publication quality before they are released to the client.

Our Guarantee

If you don't alter a manuscript that we've edited and it is rejected by a journal on purely English language grounds, we will offer to re-edit it free of charge. In support of your claim we will need the original note from the journal editor stating the reasons for rejection, that editor's contact details and a copy of the document as you sent it to the journal. For your manuscript to be re-edited free of charge the rejection must be based wholly on problems with English usage, and not in part or in whole because of problems with the content, style or inappropriate or incorrect terminology.

We treat confidentiality very seriously and in our long history have never disclosed any client information. We can supply a confidentiality agreement if requested and are happy to sign your own documentation to provide peace of mind.

Although Word format is preferable, we're happy to work on your document in virtually any format:

  • Word Format (.doc, .docx)
  • PDF Format (.pdf)
  • LaTeX Format (.tex)
  • RTF Format (.rtf)
  • TXT Format (.txt)
  • HTML Format (.html)
  • Excel Format (.xls, .xlsx)
  • PowerPoint Format (.ppt,.pptx)
  • Image Formats (.jpg, .png)

If you don't see the format you're using, please get in touch with us to discuss.

While communication varies with each project, the graphic below is a guide to our editing service flow for journal papers.

Work Flow

Working on thousands of documents each year means that we need a system to remain organised and efficient. However, we're sure that the last thing that you want is another log-in name and password to remember!

We've thus developed a sophisticated system simply based on your email. There's nothing for you to sign-up to and nothing to remember. We create an account based on your email address (or addresses) that allows us to:

  • Keep track of all of our email communication.
  • Keep a record of all of your quotes, invoices and history with us.
  • Issue project updates as we work on your document.
  • Issue invoices, receipts, editing certificates and coupons.

All client information and documents are stored safely behind a password-protected area on our server.

We answer queries almost every day of the year (except 25 December and 1 January) through email. During office hours you can also contact us in English, Cantonese or Mandarin through:

  • Telephone: Hong Kong and PRC Toll Free numbers
  • Skype
  • WeChat
  • QQ
  • Live online website help
